PHYSICAL PLANNING UNIT

Introduction

The Physical Planning Unit of the Enugu State Polytechnic (ESPOLY), Iwollo started in April, 2018. The unit is under the Rector’s office for all projects evaluation, monitoring and implementation. The need for which the unit was created is to oversee that the master plan of the Institution is strictly adhered to, monitor new projects and ensure they are achieved through good planning/ designing, coordination and supervision. The responsibility of the unit is to continuously plan, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the physical implementation of the polytechnic master plan. The unit initiates projects starting from the users (Departmental briefing stage), and other processes, up to the Governing Council’s Approval on initiated projects. The Physical Planning Unit of the Polytechnic is headed by a Director (Arc. Ilo Winnie Nneka from 2018 till date).

FUNCTIONS OF THE PHYSICAL PLANNING UNIT

  • It makes recommendations on appointments of Consultants and Contractors from design stage till project completion.
  • It obtains sketch designs and plans and discuss with the relevant consultants to the projects to ensure all briefs are respected and that submissions conform to the spaces requirements and standards.
  • The Unit prepares necessary documents for submission to the National Board for Technical Education, TETFund and other funding/donor organization.
  • The Unit is responsible for ensuring that ESPOLY projects are processed through the approved Federal Government Due Process Procurement Procedure.
  • It prepares appropriate progress reports at regular intervals on projects.

STAFFING

The Unit is headed by a Director who takes directives from the Rector on the day to day activities of the Directorate. The Director is supported by a small team of professionals and junior staff. The senior staff includes a professionally qualified Architect, Quantity Surveyor, Structural Engineer and other technical staff.
