The unit was established on the 27th of January, 2011 by the Institution’s Authority. The unit has only two Tractors as at take off.
These Tractors were initially used to landscape, slash and prepare fields in the premises for student’s demonstration farms. They were also used to
fetch water for both irrigating these farms and for student’s use at the hostels. Later in the year, one of the tractors was fully used in the Institution’s farm while the other tractor was deployed under a hire agreement to Adani Rice Field for three weeks.
Around October, two more tractors were added to the existing ones. With the arrival of the new tractors, the activities of the unit got boosted
up, revenue came but in a small scale as the period was not at the peak of the season.
By June 2011, the Environmental section was added to the unit with a new nomenclature; Tractor and Environmental Management Unit. This unit has the responsibilityof keeping the Polytechnic neat, landscaping, embellishing the compound and the buildings with flowers. These flowers and plants improve the environmental comfort and also have the concept of providing aesthetic values, foliage and flower colours. The unit was able to carve out parking space closer to the lawns garden for public use with shield tree planted along side. The unit is making the best use of the resources allocated to them. The Polytechnic compound is gradually manifesting the handwork of the Unit. Early 2012, more four tractors were added to the existing ones. With their arrival, the personnels in the unit were better encouraged towards generating more and constant revenue to the Institution. At the time of this report, four of our tractors are engaged in different parts of the state ploughing and harrowing rice fields. We strongly believe and expect a substantial increase in the unit’s revenue to the Polytechnic’s account. We in the unit must not fail to congratulate the Rector, the Council members, the Registrar and the Management in equipping the College of Agriculture with modern agricultural machines.
